Introducing the new INCUBATE Hub

The home for startups and entrepreneurs at the University of Sydney

10 weeks into the first semester and the INCUBATE Hub and has already seen over 1,000 students through the doors. The newly constructed INCUBATE Hub is a cumulation of two years of hard work, planning, design and construction to present the first purpose-built space for startups and co-curricular entrepreneurship at University of Sydney.

And we couldn’t be more excited!

Already this semester, we’ve hosted some outstanding events, like our International Women’s Day panel, which featured awesome entrepreneurs such Julia French, a member of the team that created WhatsApp, workshops with USYD’s Robotics, Space and Computing Societies, as well as a multitude of industry masterclasses, and our free Proto workshops from our pre-accelerator program.

The Hub features premium startup coworking desks for teams, multiple break-out meeting and discussion areas, and state-of-the-art presentation and pitching spaces (what founders do every day!). From the INCUBATE Hub, we can intimately present to 100 people in-person and potentially live-stream to millions.

The Design

The Hub’s design combines our over six years of experience supporting hundreds of student entrepreneurs. We have created a space that suits our dynamic programs, from small brainstorming sessions to interactive workshops and lectures.

The space is split into three key themes: PITCH, CELEBRATE and THINK. PITCH is our modular workshop space that accommodates everything from small team brainstorms to multimedia presentations with 100 attendees. CELEBRATE is our team break-out and lobby area which allows for casual meetings and ‘all-hands’ presentations. THINK is our individual working and private meeting area.

The most eye-catching design element of the Hub is our custom blue pipework that crisscrosses the roof. The pipes symbolise the flow of information and ideas from outside the space, they combine and collide over the PITCH and THINK spaces before being ‘sorted’ and landing on each individual coworking desk. Functionally they carry the LED lighting, data and power for much of the Hub.

For the Community

Students and researchers are welcome to come along to our many free startup and entrepreneurship workshops and events — just sign up to our newsletter for updates. If you’re interested in a desk, please get in touch.

For those in the industry, we invite you to co-host your startup and innovation events on campus. We’re open to all sorts of creative events, whether it’s the intersection of arts and innovation, blockchain meetups, and industry breakfasts. Bridging the gap between the university and industry is one of our core guiding principles.
