Something not a lot of people know about me is that I’ve been a hobby DJ for more then 10 years. Before that I played piano from a very young age.
Recently I’ve gotten back into DJing after buying myself some decks during our first big lock down and now recording new mixes which I’m putting up on SoundCloud.
In fact, some of my most memorable moments at university was hosting a new DJ night and a music society with a friend of mine where we booked lots of newbie artists, some of whom have become pretty huge. Heard of Rufus Du Sol, Flume, Seekae, Tigerlilly? There were a bunch. In some ways this was the first lesson in nature of entertainment (many artists were equally talented but only a few got big big) but also some early lessons in promoting and marketing – attracting the right niche, making something become ‘cool’. And, as some artists have grown, how to build and scale a music business too which essentially what every artist has to do to make a good living from making music.
I’ve always had an interest in discovering new talent from DJs, bands and now founders but also got into electronic music and dance music early (something I share with more than a few VCs!).
So if you like electronic, house and techno styles check out some of my mixes from last few months. If you prefer other styles…well, stick around because there’s more themes coming to my mixes.
